‘Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. ‘–1 Timothy 4:12
Our youth mission mirrors our Church mission: Come, grow, and go. We begin our youth program at age 12 and go up to young adults. We currently meet at Grand Living Realty Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM for dinner and fellowship followed by youth meetings.
We desire youth to come to church, youth group meetings, and outings to promote fellowship; moreover, to equip them with knowledge of living life through Christ in a secular world: 33Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.—Luke 21:33. The secular world remains filled with pitfalls including, but not limited to, social media, loose morality, peer pressure from cohorts, and changes constantly in ways contradictory to God’s Word. We equip our youth with the armor of God through His Word and love for us through Grace. We teach that you will never be good enough to go to heaven; the way to heaven remains through Christ and His Grace. We work through obstacles of youth by equipping their faith: ‘So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. ‘ –Romans 10:17.
To Grow in faith, one must know the Word; the Gospel. So, in discussions, we ask the youth what troubles they face in the world. This includes home, school, and activities in which they participate. While we do assign readings, we absolutely let the conversations lead to what obstacles the youth face and what the scriptures say about these and scriptural relevance to modern society. As we arm the youth with the Word, we then discuss behavioral strategies they might employ in dealing with life’s serious issues. We arm them for the world.
It remains a lifelong process when going into the world walking with God: Alive in Christ
6Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily…Colossians 2: 6-9. Equipping youth to go into the world to be flourishing disciples and spread the Gospel often manifests through a trust made with students and teachers. When serious issues arise through trustful conversations, we address them with the individual youth and parents in order to produce a loving Christian outcome.
We encourage parents to bring their youth to the program. We prepare them to come, grow, and go. If you have any questions regarding the program specifics, please contact our youth leader:
